About Us

Chef Mark Ray is trained in the classical French tradition, he has received his degree from San Diego Culinary Institute where he was also an instructor.  He specializes in Pacific Rim, and Asian fusion cuisines.  He recently served in Charlie Company 1/178 IN and in the Illinois National Guard. Now the Kankakee native has brought his culinary training and love of Southern cooking back home.  Savannah's Southern Bistro opened in December at 2005 W. Court St. in Kankakee. Located next to Busse & Rieck Flowers, Plants & Gifts, it's a great place to grab a morning cup of Joe, lunch with a friend, or dinner with the family. Free Wifi is available.

Savannah's is now serving Broaster Chicken, a brand of specially prepared chicken sure to please your palette. There's an 8-foot salad bar for the health-conscious, and two homemade soups daily. In a hurry? Grab dinner to go. Just don't forget dessert. They have several mouth-watering treats to choose from, including bread pudding and chocolate bourbon pecan pie.

Ray and co-owner Frank Hayden both are members of Charlie Company, which is never far from their thoughts. A memorial wall at the restaurant pays tribute to the 18 soldiers from their unit that they lost in their last deployment. Members of the military receive a special discount at the restaurant, as do police, firefighters and other uniformed public servants.
